Fused with soothing, neutral colour palettes and luxurious collections, combined with a refreshing, organically rendered personal vibe, is Chiltern Street boutique, Mouki Mou. Located just off Baker Street in London, the store carries a beautiful, sophisticated elegance, produced by its charmingly merchandised rooms filled with carefully selected pieces. The HausMag team were lucky enough to meet with owner of Mouki Mou, Maria Lemos and her wonderful team.
Maria Lemos has worked in fashion for 28 years across press and sales, always dreaming that one day she would open her own shop. After discovering Chiltern street, full of charm and independent little stores, Mouki Mou was born. The store’s purpose is not just about the clothes, it’s more of about the culture and way of life, providing timeless pieces that continuously gain value as time goes on.
Characterised by a clean, quiet and luxurious aesthetic, this inspirational lifestyle brand carries unique accessories such as bone bracelets, to sensuous beauty products, home wares, all sourced from around the globe. With a focus on a natural materials and a simple, relaxed approach to living.
William Russell of Pentagram worked with the team on the interior design concept for Mouki Mou. The stores concept was based on British materials, neutral palettes and different designs for each room. For example, different flooring in each room to define the spaces. The entrance room (upstairs) showcases beautifully delicate jewellery and the most amazing smelling beauty products. Downstairs is four little rooms each conveying four different moods that tie into the overall aesthetic.
“A significant defining factor of the store is the aesthetic, not the price” says Lemos. Whilst some of the products are on the high price range, there’s also pieces of an accessible pricing point. Lemos’ store appeals to all ages “from the daughter to the grandmother”, and the collections are sourced on her frequent travelling to New York, Paris, Milan and Japan.
Some of the brans that Mouki Mou carry is 45rpm, Arts and Science and Hallelujah from Japan, Lemaire, Cristaseya and Atlantique Ascoli from France, The Elder Statesman, Rachel Comey, Maria Cornejo, Dosa, Simon Miller, Feit from the US and Toogood and Anna Valentine from the UK. On jewellery, Ted Muehling, Gabriella Kiss, Ten Thousand Things, Disa Allsopp, Le Gramme, Anaconda and many more.
“We want the whole world of the designers to be beautiful. We do not want to just buy clothes or product, we want to connect our customers to the designer’s world.”
