Originally from Birmingham, this talented designer first completed her BA in Fashion at UAL Chelsea College of Art and then went to study her masters at the Royal College of Art. Cheema’s final collection is  compromised of accessories, eyewear and material pieces – all of which were inspired by London’s urban environment.

“I’m inspired by London, there’s so many things you can abstract ideas from. Like the texture from the tarmac on the road or peeling paint, that’s what gets me really excited.”

To create this eccentric collection, the designer worked primarily with resin and moulds. Drawing inspiration from the geometrical objects around the Peckham area and other parts of London, the talented artist cites her surroundings as her main form of stimulation.

Demonstrating the close relationship Cheema has with her environment, the quirky hexagonal bracelet resembles a large object found in Peckham Rye.

In terms of the eyewear, Cheema looked at many different types of designs from traditionally shaped constructions to the edgy and unusual. In the end, finding her own innovative style, combining her modernistic colour palettes and effective use of resin to produce her own definitive brand.

The talented designer not only hosts a captivating masters collection, what made Jen Cheema stand out so fantastically was her brilliantly bold photographic pieces. Originating from her usual practice at college, the editorial pieces were styled and directed by herself. The images, photographed by Jessica Gwyneth, have a sophisticated yet playful charm, staged with striking colours that compliment each other beautifully.

“The best advice I could give to budding designers is don’t give up. Always have confidence in your work, you’re making great work.”
