Frequenting material labs and nuclear research compounds for inspirations, Dutch designer Iris van Herpen is dubbed the “alchemist of fashion.” (SCMP, 2014)

Capturing the essence of time and bringing it to the runway, the talented designer delivered her captivating parade with some of her models suspended in vacuums between plastic sheeting.

The installations held the models firmly in midair posing in the foetal position, yet adorned in lavish shimmering dresses. Adding her signature style of 3D printing, injection moulding and laser cutting the conceptual designer elaborates on her artistic display;

“I have never seen anything as beautiful. It’s like looking into the future,” van Herpen says. “Motion and movement have always been an inspiration in my work, [such as] dance and metamorphosis.” (SCMP, 2014)
