It’s that time of year again when London is awash with fashionistas, designers, models, stylists, reporters, critics and bloggers gathering in venues across the big smoke to catch a glimpse of London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2016. Embracing the clear blue skies and rare dose of British sunshine, the Hausie team bring you the latest in style and artistic flair from this year’s runways.

From the must-have Mulberry staple to the Hannibal Lecter headwear of Gareth Pugh, the British capital has wowed the design world once again with its eclectic parades of artistic decadence.

Unlocking an array of enchanting boudoir exclusives, Sarah Burton delivered a nocturnal parade of hyper-femininity. The gossamer gowns for Alexander McQueen were encompassed by a whimsical aura, reflective of the sequins and diamante embroidery embellishments. (WWD, 2016) Presenting the most elaborate bed jackets paired with the conceptual twist of leather corsets worn over ruffled mini dresses, the collection pays homage to the quintessential menace of McQueen whilst illustrating a lucid dream.  (Vogue, 2016)

The intimate collection comprised of delicate chiffon dresses adorned in powder compacts, looking glasses and scent bottles were reflective of precious antiques.  Commenting of the creative rationale behind the whimsical trance, Burton claims;;

“It was about the subconscious and the conscious,” said Burton of the mood. “For the pre-collection we started talking about women and their obsessions and how a woman comes to life at night. There’s soft femininity about her but there’s also a powerfulness in her eccentricity and in the talismans of femininity she carries with her.” (Financial Times, 2016)

Making his debut for the luxury British brand Mulberry, former Céline accessories designer Jonny Coca produced a range of sheer dresses enriched with sequin embellishments and leather biker jackets at The Guildhall. The collection itself reflected hints of androgyny with a conceptual twist, delivering the intriguing fusion inspired by British heritage.

Bidding farewell to the iconic tree logo, Coca presented the much anticipated new bag of the season, the “Clifton”. Re-branded in a refreshing style of sophisticated gold, the stylish over the shoulder tote with attached polished chain is available in a vibrant array of bold colours.

While Gareth Pugh is renowned for his creative outlandish looks and pushing the boundaries of design, his Fall 2016 collection paid homage to one of the biggest British villains of all time “Hannibal Lecter”. Representative of the fictional cannibalistic serial killer from ‘Silence Of The Lambs,’ the show featured models adorning the malevolent characters iconic mask. (Huffington Post, 2016) Offering a blazing tribute to female strength and power, the eccentric parade of military-style buttoned fronted coats and exterior shearling pays homage to the aggressive and assertive woman. Whilst the angular bustier dresses, accessorised with dominatrix collars and villain masks mark the strive to succeed within a male-dominated society;

“I know a lot of those women and I both fear and love them,” he remarked. “They’re the kind of women you really don’t want to cross…”- Gareth Pugh (Dazed Digital, 2016)

JW Anderson | London Fashion Week 2016

Making fashion history as the first ever designer to win both designer of the year for both the men’s and womenswear categories, J.W. Anderson has wowed the runways once again with ruffled expression of colourful exuberance.

Relaying an assortment of different hints from various eras, Anderson presented the rah-rah type short skirts of the 1980s with long black buttoned governess dresses representative of the early 20th century. The sculpted sleeves reflected the delicate substance of Japanese ceramics while the signature peplum hemlines appeared stiffened. (The Telegraph, 2013)

Anya Hinmarch | London Fashion Week 2016

Exploring the patterned decadence of the retro era, Anya Hindmarch embraces the broad array of fun-filled mixed media combinations this staple has to offer. Channeling a message of artful sophistication, the asymmetrical styles and materials incorporate an essence of contemporary elegance with pixelated fun.

A throwback of 1980s video game characters such as Pac-Man and Space Invaders were blown up across Anya Hindmarch’s quirky accessories range, offering an extra degree of vintage chic. The handbag collection based on classic designs with a fun-filled retro exterior encompassed multiple design techniques such as heat-fusing, leather marquetry and intricate embroidery.

Vivienne Westwood | London Fashion Week 2016

Draped in an eccentric borderline-heretical collection, Dame Vivienne Westwood sent her models down the catwalk in a haze of elaborate quilted prints. The collection of red check coats, gypsy blouses and draped silk dresses encompassed the notorious designers playful spirit. Commenting on the production rationale of her timeless garments, the renowned campaigner of sustainability comments on the importance to re-create quality wardrobe classics;

“There are always things in the collection that I do again and again, which for me are basic, and which I think are timeless. “ — Dame Vivienne Westwood (Vogue, 2016)
