A Resort collection, also referred to as a Cruise collection, originated as an exclusive designer selection for the upper class. With the growing fashion market, designers have begun introducing these secretive pieces to the runway making this exclusive collection available for everyone.
Set between annual season shows, the content of resort is also viewed as a sneak-peak of the upcoming trends within the Summer 2017 collection. On the whole, for this year’s Resort season, we see an abundance of minimal style treading in as opposed to the usual beach wear.
The design team at Helmut Lang took inspiration from the styling formula of urban creatives. This collection desired to combine both casual and formal clothing, for wearers who work in a fast-paced, metropolitan environment.

Amy Smilovic, designer of Tibi, also stated similar viewpoints in her collection. Corresponding to women’s fascinations, Amy offers tomboyish shapes in unforeseen colours with a feminine twist. Collaborating the nipped waist silhouette with slouchy pants – a modern reinterpretation is created along with the minimal trend.

Differentiating themselves from Ready-to-Wear shows, designers have to harmonise creativity and wearability for Resort. More designer brands, such as Jil Sander, Boss, Lanvin and DKNY, are readily facing these challenges, thus enriching their branding.
The aura of Resort nowadays highlights wearability for the in-between season. With a surge of innovative designers’ offering a new conceptual perspective to the world of design, the Resort of 2017 has debuted a blend of modern functionality with a minimal twist.
