Emerging technologies have always been the muse of innovation. The role of the designer has always been to identify problems in the real world and apply such technology in a way that is new, exciting, and effective. However, in an age where technology is developing at an exponential rate, a peculiar conundrum has arisen: technologies themselves are creating unique problems now, as much as they solve them. This is particularly evident in the personal technology i.e mobile phones, computers, other smart devices etc, prompting a surge of unique innovations that solve the nuanced problems created by evolving technologies. One such innovation is the Power Packer by Side by Side, a travel solution for all of the modern technology user’s essentials.

The founder of Side by Side, Antoine d’Haussy, is a French native working out of Hong Kong with over a decade of experience in the luggage industry. Side by Side travel gear is inspired by his own passion for detailed design and functional materials; the Power Packer exemplifies this with simplistic, yet progressive features that are extremely user orientated.

The Power Packer is designed to organise and store a variety of technological accessories such as cables, storage devices, power banks, mouses, batteries etc. all in a slim, compact, bag. It is made up of three compartments, each with different elastic pouches for specific storage options.

The first compartment is made from a combination of 300D polyester and elastane nylon fiber, allowing larger objects such as hard drives and laptop chargers to fit easily without compromising the durability of the outer layer of fabric.

The second compartment is comprised of a full length elastic sleeve for smaller devices such as mouses and with small elastic ringlets attached for wire and cable storage. A pad separates the second and third compartments, containing pockets and more elastic bands for specific storage for SD cards, wires, USB sticks, as well as a zipper pocket for the smaller, more important items such as SIM cards, dongles, and keys.

The third compartment features three large elastic bands that hold in place any larger chargers or long, thick cords such as HDMI cables or computer chargers.

The exterior is well padded, featuring reversed construction zippers and a simple adjustable strap at the head of the bag to create a sleek, streamlined aesthetic. While the base colour of the exterior is a matte grey, the middle band of elastane nylon fiber comes in three colours: Shadow, Bordeaux, and Camouflage, as seen below.
